“I fractured my hip in a bike accident which resulted in surgery to put in three bolts holding together the neck of femur. Six months went by with virtually no sign of healing. I was told it was very unlikely the bone would ever rejoin, so as my only option I was booked in for a total hip replacement. I started working with Hersha to help prepare for the surgery. At this point I was still using crutches and struggled with everyday things, like navigating stairs.

Her deep knowledge, experience and expert advice helped me build the necessary strength through weight training to allow the natural healing to accelerate. In my case, working consistently with Hersha directly led to improvement so dramatic we were able to postpone the surgery and, ultimately, cancel it altogether. Hersha’s plan provided the right stimulus to allow the natural healing to completely reconnect the bone, overcoming an outcome many surgeons advised was improbable to occur. She didn’t give up; she pushed me beyond what I thought was possible; and every day I’m thrilled to be walking, cycling and even running on my own hip.

“They say sports build character, but in my case, it also resulted in me breaking my ankle. One intense hockey match later, I had completely ruptured my lateral ligaments, partially torn my syndesmotic ligament, and even managed a small fracture. I thought to myself, my ligaments were as shattered as my dreams.
I opted for non-invasive treatment. After a month in a cast and another month in an aircast boot, I was introduced to Hersha by my foot and ankle consultant, Mr Madhav and began my physio journey. My problems were twofold: building my muscle bulk and strength, and gaining my mobility back. Hersha recognised these and tailored a specific program including some exercises I could complete in the pool. We started with some light loading exercises to help develop strength as I was initially unable to walk without a limp. As my strength developed, we moved onto more dynamic movements before finally starting plyometrics training. This included running, skipping and jumping drills before finally returning to lifting heavy weights. Hersha’s advice on varying my footwear was a game changer. It made a really big difference in exposing my ankle to different types of load on a day-to-day basis, strengthening my ankle. My recovery took a total of 3 months of intense rehab and the biggest reason I have had such a successful outcome is the fact that Hersha was willing to push me. This really helped overcome my mental block when it came to doing certain exercises. Hersha was great to talk to and work with. She made the sessions fun and honestly something to look forward to!
I can’t stress enough, I only got this outcome because I completed the program Hersha prescribed in addition to the sessions. So if you are in crippling pain, and need to get back to what you enjoy most, in my case Hockey, I would highly recommend Hersha, I couldn’t have done it without her!

“At the age of 74 I had an anterior hip replacement performed by Jonathan Hutt after being very limited by pain and stiffness. As someone that has always been very active and have enjoyed yoga and body building my hip pain had really impacted the quality of my life, I could hardly walk up the stairs. 

I met Hersha after the operation where she visited my home, and gave me an excellent progressive loading exercise program along with some modified yoga exercises, worked on my scar and provided manual therapy, which helped with both my pain and swelling after the procedure. This enabled me to be driving (my automatic) after 6 weeks, and to travel long distance after only 10 weeks, with confidence, to my winter home. It is just over a year now and I feel fitter than ever, I’m back to weight training, yoga, walking and I even took up golf in January!

“Hersha provided me with rehab following my hip replacement with Sarah Muirhead from the day I was discharged home from hospital. Our sessions consisted of a combination of massage, scar management and exercise. Having suffered with very limited movement in my hips and back for quite some time there was a lot of compensatory movement patterns I had adopted. Hersha worked with me to understand my goals and my body to establish the best treatment plan for me. She was highly motivating and at the same time reassuring at every stage of my recovery. “Having a knee op can be scary, especially when I’d been through it before and had a difficult past experience. It felt like I was back at square one, I felt pretty helpless and very low on motivation after that MRI. But seeing Hersha changed that.
